“Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.” – Peter Adams
“Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.” – David Alan Harvey
I’m opening up this post with two quotes that resonate with my photographer’s heart. As I sit here on the other side of 2019’s finish line, I at last have the time and the space to take it all in. The 2019 wedding season was Kaleidoscope Imagery’s biggest yet. We hit goals and targets that I have dreamed of for years, but my oh my was it a whirlwind! I’m so thankful to have the quiet peace of winter to reflect, to curate, and to bring to you Kaleidoscope Imagery’s 2019 Best of Weddings.
The quotes above connect photography with an intuitive feeling within the heart of the artist. No two photographers will ever shoot the same scene in the same way. The differences may be vast or subtle, but if you look and listen closely, you’ll hear the artist whispering to you his or her unique vision. Beyond technical skill, it is the heart and soul we bring with us to every event that tells each couple’s story with inspiration. As you scroll through this collection, I hope you will witness the values we hold the highest: honest and genuine storytelling, authentic emotions, romantic and timeless portraiture, artistic lighting, bold color, variety, and a sprinkle of playful fun throughout.
As I reviewed this collection, I was able to really pause and appreciate all of the wonderful people and places that 2019 brought. From tearful first looks on golf courses to dramatic city skyline portraits to quiet moments of pre-ceremony prayer, there truly was a kaleidoscope (have you noticed that I’m a fan of this word?) of memories and beauty. Thank you to my couples for making this dream come true, and I wish you all the best as you enter 2020 and continue your journey as newlyweds.
2020, here we come! I’m ready for fresh inspiration, new love stories, and setting my sights on the future. We are back at it in February and will be better than ever. This next year will introduce expansion, with welcoming associate shooters and kicking off our photo booth services! Until then, I’m going with the slow and resting up. Wish me luck with some DIY home projects and checking off a super long “slow season” to do list. I’ll see you all soon.
With love,
Nicole
